WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal filler is a substance made of hyaluronic acid, which is produced by the skin cells in the human body. Once injected into the skin it fills up with water and adds volume to the muscles. As we age, our bodies stop producing collagen and elastin both of which help to give us a youthful look and in the absence of both, facial wrinkles start to appear. The function of the filler is to iron out the fine lines and wrinkles and add volume to the facial muscles.

Most wrinkle fillers are temporary as they eventually get absorbed by the body. The majority of dermal fillers last between 6-18 months, however, the length of time can depend on a variety of factors including the type of filler used, the client's body and their lifestyle.

REACTIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS

Reactions generally occur immediately following the dermal filler facial treatments and it is normal to experience slight discomfort, redness, minor pain and bruising. Other reactions include swelling, itching and tenderness at the injection points. These reactions are expected and are completely normal after facial injections, and generally disappear within 7-14 days.

Side effects are rare and generally include, but are not limited to infection, lumps, filler moving from the intended treatment area overtime and rashes. Side effects usually subside within 7-10 days, however, if they remain after this time please contact us to book a follow-up appointment.
